Looking for a Shorter Overview?

AI Summary

Yes—Caribbean creators can monetize YouTube by connecting AdSense for YouTube to a valid local bank account, and the article includes real setup examples and practical payment guidance. The big 2027 change is higher entry thresholds for new applicants (especially for full ads/Premium and Shorts revenue), while existing creators can keep earning if they review and accept updated YPP terms and maintain Shorts activity. It also stresses that monetization eligibility depends on “qualified” metrics in YouTube Studio (not just public counters) plus strict compliance for ads, tax info, and accurate banking details.

Key Moments

AdSense is the payment route for Caribbean YouTube earnings

YouTube monetization works in the Caribbean when you connect AdSense for YouTube and use correct Caribbean banking/address details for wire transfer options.

2027 raises thresholds for new applicants (full ads + Premium and Shorts)

From Feb 1, 2027 new applicants need higher qualified watch-time/Shorts-view numbers for full ads/Premium, and Shorts monetization requires an ongoing 10M qualified Shorts views per 90 days.

There are two monetization entry levels—don’t confuse them

Level 1 (500 subs + uploads + qualified watch hours/views) unlocks fan funding and Shopping features but not full Watch Page ads, Shorts Feed ads, or YouTube Premium revenue.

Use YouTube Studio → Earn for eligibility metrics, not the public counters

Shorts and watch-hour eligibility depend on qualified metrics tracked in YouTube Studio, and creators must meet activity/active-status rules to stay earning.

Can you monetize YouTube from the Caribbean? Yes. I have done it, I have connected YouTube to AdSense, and I have received the money through a Caribbean bank account. This guide preserves that tested Caribbean experience while updating the YouTube Partner Program requirements that apply now and the major changes taking effect in 2027.

There is still a lot of misinformation telling creators in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean that YouTube monetization is simply unavailable to them. That has not been my experience. The payment engine behind YouTube is AdSense, and Google supports AdSense sign-ups across the Caribbean. Google also lists YouTube wire-transfer payment options for many Caribbean countries and territories.

This is not a theory. The screenshots below show my own YouTube connection to AdSense and my First Citizens Bank account in Trinidad and Tobago. If you have a US-dollar account at your local bank, your bank may be able to keep the incoming funds in USD instead of converting them to local currency.

The short version: what changes in 2027?

  • Until January 31, 2027: full advertising and YouTube Premium revenue requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in 90 days.
  • From February 1, 2027: new applicants for full ads and Premium revenue need 1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days.
  • The earlier-access level remains: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. This unlocks eligible fan-funding and Shopping features, not full ad revenue, and is available only in supported expanded-YPP locations.
  • Existing YPP creators are not pushed out by the higher entry threshold. However, creators must review and accept the updated monetization terms in YouTube Studio by January 31, 2027 to keep earning from the affected features.
  • Shorts revenue gets an ongoing threshold: from February 2027, a creator needs 10 million qualified Shorts views over the previous 90 days to share in Shorts ads and subscription revenue for the applicable month. Long-form monetization can continue if the channel remains in YPP.

Those changes are confirmed in YouTube’s official August 2026 YPP announcement and its 2027 program update. The higher figures are alternatives, not cumulative requirements: you qualify through long-form watch time or Shorts views.

Can every Caribbean island monetize YouTube?

YouTube monetization is possible throughout the Caribbean, and AdSense is the route that makes the payment side work. Google’s own AdSense availability list includes Caribbean countries and territories, while its payment-method table shows YouTube wire transfers across much of the region.

One source of confusion is that Google maintains separate public pages for YPP sign-up availability, expanded-YPP access, AdSense registration and YouTube payments. Those lists do not always describe the same feature or display the same places. Do not read one list in isolation and conclude that Caribbean creators cannot earn. Check YouTube Studio → Earn on the actual channel, complete the YPP application shown there, and link the AdSense for YouTube account using the channel’s real country, address and banking information.

Do not use a false overseas address, borrowed identity or mismatched payment profile. Monetization must be built on accurate account, tax and banking details.

How to qualify for YouTube monetization

Level 1: earlier access to fan funding and Shopping

RequirementThreshold
Subscribers500
Recent activity3 valid public uploads in the previous 90 days
Long-form route3,000 qualified public watch hours in 365 days
Shorts route3 million qualified public Shorts views in 90 days
Creators need the subscriber and upload requirements plus either the long-form or Shorts threshold. Availability depends on whether expanded YPP is offered for the account’s location.

This level can unlock eligible channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks and Shopping features. It does not unlock full Watch Page advertising, Shorts Feed ads or YouTube Premium revenue.

Level 2: full ads and YouTube Premium revenue

RequirementThrough Jan. 31, 2027From Feb. 1, 2027 for new applicants
Subscribers1,0001,000
Long-form route4,000 qualified watch hours in 12 months8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days
Shorts route10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days

Watch time from the Shorts Feed does not count toward the long-form watch-hour requirement. Private, unlisted or deleted videos, paid-ad-campaign traffic and certain livestream watch time do not count either. Reaching the numbers starts a review; it does not guarantee acceptance. YouTube still reviews the entire channel for compliance.

The complete application process

  1. Create and position the channel. Choose a clear niche and make content for a specific audience.
  2. Build toward the correct threshold. Track subscribers, qualified watch hours and qualified Shorts views in YouTube Studio.
  3. Keep the channel compliant. Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines, copyright rules, advertiser-friendly guidelines and channel monetization policies.
  4. Secure the Google account. Turn on two-step verification and make sure the channel has access to YouTube’s advanced features.
  5. Apply inside YouTube Studio. Open Earn, accept the available YPP terms and start the AdSense for YouTube connection from there.
  6. Link one active AdSense for YouTube account. Do not create duplicate AdSense accounts. Use your accurate Caribbean payment address, tax details and identity information.
  7. Complete the channel review. YouTube uses automated systems and human reviewers to assess the channel as a whole.

How YouTube pays Caribbean creators

YouTube pays creators through AdSense for YouTube. The payment methods available depend on the payment address in your account. Across the Caribbean, Google’s current table commonly lists wire transfer, with cheque or Hyperwallet available in some locations.

Payment threshold and timing

For a USD payments account, the payment threshold is generally US$100. If the balance does not reach the threshold by the end of a month, it rolls over. Google then finalizes eligible earnings and issues payment according to its normal schedule once identity, address, tax and payment-method steps are complete and there are no holds. A wire transfer can take additional time to reach your bank.

All creators earning on YouTube must submit tax information, regardless of location. Depending on the information supplied, Google may withhold tax on earnings from viewers in the United States. See Google’s current YouTube payment guide for the latest requirements.

Adding a Caribbean bank account to AdSense

  1. Sign in to AdSense for YouTube.
  2. Go to Payments → Payments info → Manage payment methods.
  3. Select Add payment method and choose the available wire-transfer option.
  4. Enter the account holder’s name exactly as the bank has it.
  5. Enter the official bank name, account number and the current SWIFT/BIC supplied by the bank.
  6. Ask the bank whether an intermediary bank, FFC or FBO instruction is required for incoming international transfers.
  7. Review every field before saving and complete any verification shown in the account.

Important: do not rely on a SWIFT code copied from an old article or a random search result. Ask your bank for the current code and any intermediary-bank instructions. If you use a USD account, confirm whether the bank will receive and retain USD and what incoming-wire fees apply.

YouTube Shorts monetization in 2027

Shorts can now be up to three minutes long. Since March 31, 2025, the public view counter records each start or replay without requiring a minimum watch time. However, YPP eligibility and Shorts ad revenue continue to use qualified engaged views, not every number shown on the public counter. That is why the figures creators see publicly can differ from the progress shown in the Earn tab.

From February 1, 2027, a channel must have at least 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days to receive Shorts Feed ad and YouTube Premium revenue for the relevant month. If the channel falls below that Shorts threshold, it can remain in YPP and continue earning from eligible long-form content. Shorts revenue sharing resumes automatically after the channel crosses the threshold again. Read the official Shorts monetization policy.

The 2027 activity rules existing creators need to know

Starting February 1, 2027, YouTube will consider a YPP channel active if it meets at least one of these conditions:

  • 1,000 qualified watch hours in the previous 365 days;
  • 1 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days; or
  • 2 long-form uploads or 5 Shorts uploads every 90 days.

Creators who fall below the activity standard receive a 90-day window to restore active status by reaching the watch-hour or Shorts-view requirement. This is separate from the higher threshold for a new creator applying for full advertising access.

AI content, reused content and the “inauthentic content” policy

YouTube did not announce a blanket ban on AI-assisted videos. In July 2025 it renamed the old “repetitious content” rule to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced work with little original value has always been ineligible for monetization.

  • AI can support research, editing, translation, ideation and production.
  • Channels still need original value, meaningful variation and a clear human perspective.
  • Realistic altered or synthetic content must be disclosed when YouTube requires it.
  • Reused clips, compilations and reaction content need significant original commentary, transformation, education or entertainment value.
  • A template that produces dozens of near-identical videos is a monetization risk, whether AI is involved or not.

Review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies before building a high-volume content system.

Do Caribbean creators earn the same amount per view?

Not necessarily. YouTube does not pay a universal flat rate per view. Revenue varies with the viewer’s location, the advertisers competing for that audience, the niche, the format, seasonality, ad suitability and how many views are actually monetized. A Caribbean creator with a large audience in the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom may see a different revenue profile from a creator whose audience is concentrated in a smaller advertising market.

  • CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube’s share and other adjustments.
  • RPM is a more useful creator metric because it estimates what the creator actually earned per 1,000 total views after YouTube’s revenue share and includes eligible revenue sources.
  • Long-form videos, Shorts, memberships and Supers have different economics, so avoid comparing them as if every view is equal.

Real Caribbean example: Devon X Scott’s YouTube earnings

In a 2020 interview I conducted with Devon X Scott, he opened his YouTube backend and shared a real earnings example. At the time, the channel showed 2.7 million lifetime views, 88,600 watch hours and estimated revenue of US$2,585.95. The playback-based CPM shown was US$6.31.

The per-video breakdown tells an even more useful story. “Hacking with Android” generated US$1,381.13—53.4% of the total shown—with 419,782 monetized playbacks and a playback-based CPM of US$5.86. A “MacBook Pro RAM Upgrade” video earned US$181.47 with a US$13.49 CPM, showing how a focused technical topic can attract higher-value advertising even with fewer views.

How to increase your YouTube earning potential

  • Create for a clear audience. Solve a defined problem or deliver a consistent kind of entertainment.
  • Build a searchable library. Tutorials, explainers and reviews can continue attracting views long after publication.
  • Use Caribbean context with global relevance. Our stories can be regional without limiting the potential audience.
  • Mix formats strategically. Shorts can help discovery; long-form builds watch time, trust and deeper monetization.
  • Study RPM, retention and revenue by video. Views alone do not tell you which topics are building a sustainable channel.
  • Stay original. Your lived experience, analysis and storytelling are harder to copy and safer under YouTube’s authenticity rules.

Ways to earn beyond YouTube ads

Advertising should not be the only business model. Depending on feature availability and your audience, a YouTube channel can also support:

  • channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks;
  • brand sponsorships and creator partnerships;
  • affiliate marketing;
  • merchandise and YouTube Shopping;
  • digital products, courses and paid workshops;
  • consulting, coaching or professional services;
  • memberships on platforms such as Patreon; and
  • traffic to an owned website, email list or online store.

Final word: YouTube remains a major Caribbean opportunity

YouTube monetization is possible for Caribbean creators. The opportunity is bigger than ad revenue: it is a chance to earn foreign currency, reach a global audience, build intellectual property and create a business around your expertise, culture or creativity.

The path is not automatic. You still need to meet the correct threshold, pass YouTube’s channel review, keep the account active and compliant, submit accurate tax information, and connect AdSense for YouTube to a valid payment method. But Caribbean geography is not a reason to sit out the creator economy.

Start with the resources you have, check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio, and build consistently. The creators who understand both the content and the business side of YouTube will be best positioned for 2027.
